Species text
This beetle is not listed in the insect Red Data Book (Shirt, 1987), but is included in Hyman & Parsons (1992) as Endangered. It was only known from a few dead sycamore trees in Windsor Great Park, Berkshire, where it was first recorded in 1984, but now the species almost certainly does not deserve its present high status. It is a species fast expanding its British range and probably a recent immigrant to the British Isles (Hammond, 1999). It is associated with fungus-infected bark or wood, and has been recorded under bark and in dry, dead wood of sycamore in company with Synchita separanda (Colydiidae). Threats include habitat loss, in particular, through the felling of trees, removal of dead wood from living trees and the destruction or removal of standing and fallen dead wood for reasons such as forest hygiene, aesthetic tidiness, public safety or for use as fire wood. Trees and both fallen and standing dead timber, especially with the bark attached, should be retained. The removal of dead timber from trees should be avoided. References
